FAQ

Frequently asked
questions.

Straightforward answers to the questions we hear most from health plans, ACOs, and provider groups evaluating ClearStars.

What is ClearStars?

ClearStars is a healthcare analytics platform purpose-built for Medicare Advantage quality programs, CMS Stars ratings, and value-based care performance management. The platform combines deterministic AI, predictive modeling, and deep domain expertise in HEDIS specifications and CMS methodology to help health plans, ACOs, and provider groups improve quality outcomes and optimize resource allocation.

What is QuaSAR?

QuaSAR (Quality and Stars Analytics Robot) is the AI engine at the core of the ClearStars platform. It is a fine-tuned large language model trained on HEDIS technical specifications, 18 years of CMS Stars data, Tukey outlier deletion simulations, and peer-reviewed population health research. QuaSAR lets you ask questions about your quality performance in plain English and get precise, auditable answers with full source traceability.

How is QuaSAR different from ChatGPT or other general-purpose AI?

General-purpose AI models like ChatGPT are designed to answer broad questions across every topic. They are probabilistic, meaning they generate the most likely response, and they can hallucinate plausible-sounding but incorrect answers. QuaSAR is deterministic. It is trained specifically on healthcare quality data and HEDIS specifications. Every answer traces back to source data with a full provenance chain. It does not guess. It does not hallucinate. It shows its work, and the work is auditable.

What data does ClearStars need to get started?

At minimum, ClearStars needs your plan-level measure rates and membership data. For full functionality, the platform can ingest claims data, clinical data (via FHIR R4, HL7 v2, CCDA, or flat files), HEDIS audit results, CAHPS survey data, HOS data, and pharmacy data. We work with your team during implementation to map your existing data assets and identify the optimal data integration approach.

How long does implementation take?

A typical implementation takes 4 to 8 weeks depending on data readiness and integration complexity. Plans with clean, readily available data in standard formats can go live in as few as 3 weeks. More complex environments with multiple data sources, custom EHR integrations, or legacy systems may take up to 12 weeks. Every implementation includes a dedicated onboarding specialist and a structured go-live plan.

What security certifications does ClearStars hold?

ClearStars operates under SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, and HITRUST controls. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. The platform runs in a dedicated, isolated cloud environment with no shared tenancy. We conduct regular penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security audits. A full security whitepaper and compliance documentation are available under NDA upon request.

How much does ClearStars cost?

Pricing is based on your organization type, membership size, and the modules you need. We do not publish list pricing because every organization's requirements are different. Contact us for a tailored quote. We will walk through your use case and provide transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Can I try ClearStars before committing?

Yes. We offer a guided pilot program where you can evaluate ClearStars with your own data in a sandboxed environment. The pilot typically runs 30 to 60 days and includes full platform access, onboarding support, and a structured evaluation framework so you can measure ROI before making a long-term commitment.

Do you support multi-tenant data sharing across affiliated plans?

Yes. ClearStars supports multi-entity configurations where a parent organization can view aggregate performance across multiple affiliated plans, subsidiaries, or contracts while maintaining strict data isolation between entities. Each plan's data remains partitioned with role-based access controls. Cross-plan benchmarking is available when authorized by all participating entities.

What EHR systems do you integrate with?

ClearStars integrates with Epic, Cerner (Oracle Health), athenahealth, MEDITECH, Allscripts, eClinicalWorks, NextGen Healthcare, and Greenway Health via FHIR R4, HL7 v2, and flat file interfaces. For proprietary or less common systems, our integration team can build custom connectors. If your system can export data in a structured format, we can work with it.
